HOTEL REVIEW 2 NIGHTS

Sandman Signature Dallas-Las Colinas Hotel & Suites Review

A good-value suite with a full kitchen and staff who made us feel looked after, though the Grand Suite is smaller in person than the photos online suggest.

We spent two nights in Las Colinas and wanted something different from the usual chains. The Sandman Signature Dallas-Las Colinas had the best reviews in the area, so we went with it. We booked through our card's travel portal using a travel credit from this card. One trade-off: because we booked through the portal, we didn't earn any points with Sandman's loyalty program on this stay. The staff were great from check-in to checkout, the bed was comfortable, and the stay felt like good value for the price. We would book it again, as long as you know going in that the suite is fine for two but tight for a family of four.

Check-in and staff

Ki checked us in at the front desk and was amazing. Check-in was efficient, and Ki took the time to explain the hotel's amenities so we knew what was where before we headed up.

Ki also gave us a tip we appreciated. The available fifth-floor room overlooked the highway, so the fourth floor had the better view. The rooms face one of two directions, and we were glad for the heads-up. We ended up on the fourth floor.

Every staff member we met during the stay was great. Edna from housekeeping was always nice when we passed her in the hallway.

You need your room key to reach the guest floors in the elevator. The elevator doors are wrapped with "Official Hotel of the Dallas Stars" branding, which will matter to hockey fans. Go Stars!

Our King Grand Suite

The Grand Suite has a king bedroom with a door, plus a separate living room with a sofa that pulls out into a bed, a desk, and a TV. Per the hotel's site it's 535 square feet. The room was clean and well kept when we arrived.

Here's the honest part. The photos online make the suite look bigger than it felt in person. For the two of us, it was fine. For a family of four using the sofa bed, we think it would feel cramped. If you're traveling with kids, set your expectations accordingly.

The bed was comfortable. It's a Beautyrest Hospitality mattress, and the pillows are Opulence pillows from Eden Textile. Per the hotel's directory, each bed comes with two firm pillows and one soft one, and the front desk will bring more if you ask.

The bedroom window has a blackout roller shade plus drapes. The closet by the entry had two robes, a safe, and a luggage rack. Our suite didn't have much storage for clothing beyond hanging space in the closet area. Some other room types appear to have more storage, so if you're staying longer, that may be worth a look.

The desk has a phone and a round charging hub with outlets and USB ports, with more wall outlets above it.

Our fourth-floor window looked out over the front parking lot to the apartments across the street and the Las Colinas office towers. It's not a scenic view, but it was a lot better than looking at the highway.

We skipped the "Refresh My Room" housekeeping service, so our room wasn't cleaned during our two nights. At this hotel, stayover cleaning is by request: you hang the "Refresh My Room" tag if you want it. For a short stay, that was fine with us.

The full kitchen

The kitchen was one of the best parts of the suite. It has a smaller fridge that worked great for us, a two-burner cooktop, a microwave, a slim stainless dishwasher built into the peninsula, a single-serve coffee maker, and a sink with a gooseneck faucet. The drawers and cabinets held cookware, utensils, cutlery, and plates.

On a two-night trip we didn't do much cooking, but having a fridge and a dishwasher is the kind of thing that makes a longer stay or a family trip easier.

The bathroom

The bathroom has a separate glass walk-in shower and a soaking tub. The shower has matte-black fixtures, a square rain head, a handheld wand on a slide bar, and wall-mounted PURE shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispensers. The vanity has a lit mirror plus a magnifying mirror.

Wi-Fi and working from the room

Wi-Fi is free. We ran a speed test from the room around 11:20 AM and got about 50 Mbps down and 55 Mbps up, which is plenty for video calls and streaming. You sign in through a login page. When we connected, it asked for our room number, last name, and email.

Breakfast at Cafe 1967

Breakfast isn't included. Cafe 1967 is a grab-and-go coffee bar off the lobby with espresso drinks, a pastry case, breakfast sandwiches, egg bites, and bagels. We got the sausage, egg, and cheese croissants. They were small but great, and easy to grab on the way out.

Khaylah served us at the cafe that morning. She was very nice and quick, and our food and latte arrived within minutes. Per the hotel's directory, the cafe is open 6 AM to noon on weekdays and 8 AM to noon on weekends. Across from the cafe there's also a self-serve coffee nook with seating.

The Tavern on Meridian is the hotel's restaurant, right next to the building. There's also a small grab-and-go market by the front desk with drinks, ice cream, snacks, and a few basics like pain reliever.

The pool, patio, and laundry

The indoor pool is small, with a separate hot tub at one end. The pool is 4.5 to 5 feet deep, and there's no lifeguard on duty. When we went, it was crowded with kids, so if you're hoping for a quiet swim, you may want to time it carefully. Per the hotel's directory, the pool is open 8 AM to 10 PM daily.

The nicest surprise was the patio. A glass wall folds open from the pool to an outdoor artificial-turf patio with loungers, a shade umbrella, and a sofa set.

The guest laundry has Speed Queen commercial washers and dryers and a fold-down counter. The machines are coin-operated, so bring coins or check with the front desk before you plan a load. Parking in the big front lot is free.

Checkout

Checkout was smooth. The hotel emailed our invoice, and there's an Express Checkout box at the front desk where you can drop your key.

Location and nearby

The hotel sits on Meridian Drive in Las Colinas, with apartments across the street and office towers nearby. It felt like a convenient base for the area.

We drove over to the Toyota Music Factory, about 2.9 miles away per the hotel's site, and only stopped to take photos. It's a cluster of restaurants and entertainment around The Pavilion, including Alamo Drafthouse, Yard House, Gloria's, and the Punch Line comedy club, with the Irving Convention Center next door. Expect it to be busier on event nights.

  • Toyota Music Factory: about 2.9 miles (per the hotel's site)
  • Las Colinas Village and The Shops at MacArthur Hills: about 1.4 miles each (per the hotel's site)
  • DFW Airport (DFW): about 6 miles, normally about a 15-minute drive (per the hotel's directory)

Would we stay here again?

Yes. For the price, the Sandman Signature Dallas-Las Colinas was good value. We got a comfortable bed, a full kitchen, fast Wi-Fi, free parking, and staff who went out of their way to help. Ki made check-in easy, with a floor tip that got us the better view, and Khaylah's quick service at Cafe 1967 stood out.

The main caveat is size. The suite photos online make it look bigger than it is. It's fine for two, but a family of four would feel cramped. The pool is also small and was busy with kids when we went. Neither issue took away from our stay.

We think it works well for couples, business travelers, and Dallas Stars fans, since it's the Official Hotel of the Dallas Stars. Families can make it work too, as long as they're comfortable with close quarters.
